University of Punjab, Lahore


The University of the Punjab, Lahore is the oldest university of Pakistan established in 1882.  It is one of the largest university offering degree programmes in varied disciplines and fields. 

The University is having following four campuses:

  1. Allama Iqbal Campus (old campus in main city of Lahore)
  2. Quaid-i-Azam Campus (new campus)
  3. Khanaspur Campus  (recreational campus located at Khanspur, Ayubia)
  4. Gujranwala Campus [with four disciplines i.e. Business Administration, Commerce, Law and Information Technology]

The University of the Punjab has 9 constituent colleges, 64 Departments/Centres/Institutes, and 434 affiliated colleges. It has 623 permanent faculty members involved in teaching/research and over 24105 on campus students. The university has following faculties:

Two alumni of the university were awarded Nobel Prizes.  Har Gobind Khorana, an Indian-American researcher, received Nobel Prize in 1968 for his work on interpretation of genetic code and its function in protein synthesis [discipline of Physiology/Medicine]. Mr. Khorana passed his B.Sc. and M.Sc from University of Punjab in 1943 and 1945.  Other Nobel Laureate is Abdus Salam, who received his Nobel Prize in Physics in 1979 for his work in Electroweak theory.  Dr Abdus Salam received his M.A. in Mathematics from university in 1946.
